Publication
AMAMIANHUOWAN
‘Amamianhuowan’ means ‘important person’ in Bini language of the Edo tribe in Nigeria. I wanted to make a publication that presents West African folktales with female leads as a way to celebrate female protagonists that could provide culturally accurate representation in the media. However, I noticed a very little amount of folktales that had female leads. I chose to highlight how little women are mentioned in some selected folktales from West Africa, and how short their own stories are in comparison to the men’s.
